The Thirteenth World Congress of the International Economic Association is scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on September 9-13, 2002, at the invitation of the Ordem dos Economistas.

The Congress days will be devoted to invited lectures on the main themes and to parallel sessions of contributed papers. Submissions of papers are welcome in all areas of economics, including areas of particular interest to the European Union.

APRIL 8th, 2002,

The main themes of the Congress are:

(1) The past and future of the European Union.
(2) The role of foreign direct investment and the regulation of multinational corporations in economic development.
(3) Social expenditure income differentials and growth
(4) The relation between structural reforms and macroeconomic policy
